About
the Restaurant
Esca was created by Mario Batali, Joseph Bastianich and David Pasternack.
They wanted to open a fish restaurant and Mario and Joe had the
perfect idea for one. The idea was to showcase the style and sensibility
of Italian coastal cooking. Dave went to Italy and saw firsthand
what they were talking about. After years of cooking French food,
Dave had finally found the food he had always wanted to cook. The
best fish available, prepared in a simple and delicious way. In
Italy that means the local catch, but in New York that means the
best fish of the Pacific, Mediterranean and our own backyard, which
is what Dave calls the local catch from Long Island.
At Esca you
can eat the most sought after Pacific Ocean delicacies along side
Fluke that Dave caught on his day off. The menu changes daily and
is driven by the fish markets of the world and the farms of Daveıs
friends. Esca is the place where you can have stunning raw fish,
called crudo in Italian, an incredible bowl of pasta and then a
Mediterranean Branzino cooked in sea salt. Esca is the best of Italian
coastal cooking with access to the worldıs greatest fish.

Menu
disclaimer
The menu at Esca changes daily. It is driven by the fish markets
and farms that we have access to. This menu represented here is
changed every two weeks. Therefore this menu will give you a feel
for what to expect when you come to Esca, but does not represent
the menu exactly.
Wine List
The wine list at Esca all Italian. We want to showcase the great
regional wines that are often omitted from other wine lists. Although
we donıt have room for chianti and pinot grigio, you will be able
to try the best lagrein and tocai friulano made today. The list
sometimes seems intimidating but there is always some one close
at hand to help. We also offer at least 10 wines by the quartino
( a carafe which holds _ liter ) as an easier way to sample some
of our unique wines.
